Hilton Points Calculator: How Many Points You Earn With Each Stay (2024)

Hilton has the widest range of points you can earn per stay of any hotel chain. On the low end, it can be as little as 5 points per dollar, but you can earn over 34 points per dollar if you have Diamond status and use a Hilton Aspire credit card to pay your bill.

How are Hilton Honors Points Calculated?

Here is a little more detail on how the number of points you earn per stay is calculated.

Base Rate & Eligible Charges:

The first thing you need to know is that you don’t earn points on the total amount of your folio (invoice). Things like fees, taxes and possibly other charges you bill to your room, like a round of golf or an excursion, do not earn points (That is, unless you use a Hilton Credit Card… more on that later).

At most Hilton properties, you’ll earn 10 points per dollar spent on the base room rate. The one exception to this is if you stay at either a Tru by Hilton property or a Home2 Suites property. They only earn 5 points per dollar spent. Avoid staying at those properties if you can!

You will also earn points on what Hilton call “Eligible Room Charges”. This includes things such as room service, telephone charges and internet charges.

Food and Beverage purchased at the hotel and charged to your room is normally considered an eligible charge for earning base points, but not always. Hilton does not specifically call out food and beverage purchases in their terms and conditions, so there is no clear answer.

Elite Status:

If you have elite status with Hilton you will earn a points bonus ranging from 20% for Silver status to 100% for Diamond status. Hilton offers a bigger bonus for having elite status than any other hotel chain, so this is a nice little perk.

As a side note, Hilton also offers the easiest way to earn top tier status. If you have the Hilton Aspire credit card, you will be given automatic Hilton Diamond status as a perk with the card.

You can also apply for the Hilton Surpass card, which offers Gold status and has a lower annual fee than the Aspire card. But it doesn’t offer as many perks.

Paying with a Hilton Co-Branded Credit Card

Here is where the total cost of your stay comes into play. If you use a Hilton Co-Branded credit card to pay your bill, you earn Hilton Bonus points for the entire cost of your bill, not just the base room rate.

So while you don’t earn base Hilton points for things like taxes, fees and anything else you charge to your room, you will earn points for those items when you pay with a Hilton credit card.

If I am staying at a Hilton property and plan to pay with my credit card, I always make sure to charge everything I can to my room, so I can get the extra bonus points for those charges.
