Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Who needs a CO Detector?

Single Family Residences.
Multiple Family Dwellings and Apartment Buildings.
Anyone with:

  1. Gas Furnace
  2. Gas Water Heater.
  3. Fireplace.
  4. Wood Burning Stove.
  5. Gas Ranges or Ovens.
  6. Gas Dryers.
  7. Kerosene Heaters.
  8. Charcoal/Gas Grilles.
  9. Lawn Mowers.
  10. Snow Blowers.
  11. Chain Saws.

Dangerous levels of carbon monoxide can occur if theses appliances are improperly installed/maintained, damaged, malfunctioning or improperly used/ventilated.

What Is Carbon Monoxide?

It is a colorless, odorless gas produced by burning fossil fuels. Natural Gas, Kerosene, Oil, Propane and Wood, etc..Exposure to lower levels of CO over several hours can be just as dangerous as exposure to higher levels for a few minutes!

What to do if your CO detector goes off.

  1. Ventilate the house and get out!
  2. As you leave, turn off fuel burning appliances if possible.
  3. Get fresh air.
  4. Call 911.
  5. Seek medical attention if you have sign and symptoms of Co poisoning.
  6. Don't go back into the building until cleared by the fire department.

Signs and Symptoms of CO Poisoning Include:

  1. Headache
  2. Fatigue
  3. Sleepiness
  4. Weakness
  5. Nausea, Vomiting
  6. Dizziness, Confusion

Who is at Risk?

  1. Children
  2. Elderly
  3. People with lung disease
  4. Pregnant women
